New York Harlem and East River by Colin reminds me of Langston Hughes' work because of the emotional, geographical, pigments found in the painting. Langston Hughes often wrote about the struggles of the African-American community during the Harlem Renaissance. He conveys the message that socially deprived African Americans made every effort to be a part of that elite American "class." The true character of American culture has been in question ever since the inception of this country. Racial, and economic hardships exist everywhere in the world, but in the "land of the free," those hardships are not accepted. Langston Hughes was a great advocate of social justice, and set a great example for peaceful social advocacy. What makes America different from other countries is that there is an inherent characteristic every American is can imbue within themselves: a voice.
